The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will introduce flag football as a new event. Flag football is classified as a “lighter version” of American football.
This is a cross-era move. Every time a new event is added, it means that there will be a new Olympic champion and a world record.
Flag football replaces the collision, tackling and other methods used in American football to stop the opponent’s offense, thereby achieving a transition between offense and defense and scoring a touchdown.
WJPS 11th grader, Hui Zhang said, “I don’t know if flag football is similar to American football, but I’m looking forward to it being included in the Olympics for the first time.”
WJPS 12th grader,Johan Lee said, “In fact, I don’t know what flag football is, but I know the rules of American football. I think they should be similar. I hope it can bring us exciting games in the Olympics.”
