Suicide Awareness and Prevention

By: Colin Turcios, Opinion Reporter

Suicide prevention is an important issue that requires our attention and care. As individuals, we can play a crucial role in preventing suicide by offering support for those in need.

One way you can help is by actively listening. Another way, besides listening, is by empathizing with their struggles.

We can encourage open conversations about mental health and provide a safe, non-judgmental space for people to express themselves.

Seeking help from trusted adults and people is crucial. It’s always good to see the beginning stages and reach out to those struggling.

If you ever have no one to talk to you can always call the suicide prevention hotline which can be done by dialing 988. If you feel alone or suicidal this line can help comfort you.

WJPS 11th grader Emma Oliveras said, “Preventing suicide is an important topic and I think it’s been seen more in society which is a good thing.”

WJPS 11th grader John Mihalios said, “I feel that suicide is a really sensitive thing to talk about and more and more people are being open about their struggles.”
