OG Anunoby to the Big Apple

On Saturday, December 30th, the Knicks made a trade with the Toronto Raptors

For forward OG Anunoby.

The Knicks sent forward RJ Barrett, guard Immanuel Quickley, and a 2024 second-round draft pick in exchange for forward Anunoby, forward Precious Achiuwa, and guard Malachi Flynn.

The most notable player in the trade, Anunoby, led the NBA in steals during the 2022-23 season with 128 steals, and averaged nearly two steals per game. His defensive capabilities are a big addition to the Knicks roster.

With Quickley having been the main offensive contributor off the bench, the Knicks bench is now missing an efficient scorer. The additions of Achiuwa and Flynn could help fill in the gaps in what’s lacking on the bench.

In this trade the Knicks did not have to give up a single one of their eight tradeable first round picks, leaving them left with a large amount of assets.

Some Knicks fans at WJPS had some thoughts on the recent trade.

WJPS 12th grader, Oliver Gonzalez said, “He improves our defense drastically and is a player needed to have a chance at winning it all. They only need to look to improve our bench with the departure of Quickley.”

WJPS 12th grader, Alejandro Ortiz said, “This trade definitely puts the Knicks in a great spot in comparison to other Eastern Conference teams.”
