A New Year, Yet the Same Old FASFA

Another year has started, and once again students have begun to rush the famed Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA) site in hopes of completing the steps necessary to receive financial aid. Although like the previous years the FAFSA site has once again posed accessing issues for both new and current students.

The FAFSA organization has stated that they were soft launching the application, making it available for short periods of time, while the website resolved the issues. The issues at hand have yet to be resolved preventing students from submitting their forms, the site has been found to be crashing during students applications.

Furthermore, an additional section was added to the form, which requires the student’s parents to complete, which could add to the list of issues, seeing as parents might have difficulty understanding the form.

WJPS 12th grader, Nathaniel Granger who is waiting to complete the form added, “I think the FAFSA is currently a much more simplified version, but some of the updates they made might cause problems further on because they added a parent signature which can cause problems with parents and guardians cooperation as well as their understanding of it.”

WJPS 12th grader, Katelyn Viglietta also said, “The FAFSA shouldn’t be so difficult to access. I understand that it’s crashing cause there’s a lot of people and the soft launch is making it difficult, but the site has been crashing even during the soft launch. It crashed while my mom was using it.”

Recently FAFSA has been able to solve some of the issues, as certain people have been able to submit their forms while others are experiencing issues.
