Ringing in the New School Year

Ringing+in+the+New+School+Year

Imagine peacefully sitting in your seat, diligently completing your work for your classes, only to be interrupted by the shrill ringing of the new bell for this school year. This is what students at WJPS experience every single day, at the end of each period.

At the beginning of the year, WJPS unexpectedly introduced a new bell to follow the respective bell schedule. Although this new bell has caused many issues regarding transferring in and out of classes, in certain rooms the bells are incredibly loud and practically ear-piercing, while in other classrooms such as Mr. Lai’s room the bells are like a whisper.

In addition, the bell itself rings for an incredibly long period of time, further interrupting class time.

WJPS senior, Nick Persaud said, “Lowkey the bells scare me a little bit. It feels like I’m in a prison sometimes, I can’t tell if it’s a bell or an announcement so when it’s an announcement I start getting up to leave.”

WJPS senior Nathaniel Granger said, “I think that the sound of the new bells is very off-putting and startling and I think they had no reason to change it, and I think they should revert to the ones they used prior.”

WJPS can solve the many issues that the new bells have caused by using the old bells that were used last year, or by using an entirely new bell.
