Global Warming Punishes Students

Global+Warming+Punishes+Students

Students at WJPS entered the school year in a searing heatwave which breathed down their necks as they were introduced to their classes. The temperatures outside continued to rise to the 90’s for the first few days of school.

Research has found that global warming, and its increase in greenhouse gas emissions cause heat waves. According to National Academics, “Global warming is affecting how hot heat waves get, how long they last, and how often they occur. The toll of heat waves on human health is expected to increase as global warming continues.”

WJPS senior, Alejandro Ortiz said, “I thought that the first day of school was abnormally hot for how the first days of school are, and I believe this will only get worse if this goes on.”

WJPS senior, Nathaniel Granger stated, “Normally at this time the average temperature is closer to the 70’s, but this time it was closer to 90’s. It was hot!!”

As time goes on, global warming and climate change will continue to worsen, unless we are able to increase our sustainability, conservation of resources, and cut back on consumption. Saving energy at home, and recycling more often helps aid the cause.
