WJPS has races from all different types of backgrounds and cultures, but there can be a lack of diversity in color as seen in school.

It’s important to have enough of each race so that others can feel comfortable within their own culture and at the same time with their own peers of different races.

With differences between other races, it can be difficult for a student to be able to click with different friend groups. 

Also, with the struggle of receiving a quality education especially with the black community, it’s important for the community to be able to stick together in schools.

WJPS technology specialist, Mr. Myrtil stated, “We did have people of color at one point, but it’s the name and disinterest in journalism may shy them away. They have choices now so they settle in the same school district or friends.”

WJPS assistant principal, Mr. Yarmy stated, “I think it would be great for the school and have more culture and diversity to celebrate.”

A collaborative meeting with the principal and school group based on people of color can be used to discuss and encourage minorities to apply for WJPS, and in return be able to provide a more welcoming school environment.
