What To Do About Joe Rogan

What To Do About Joe Rogan

Following Joe Rogan’s recent controversy on spreading misinformation on COVID-19, he began receiving even more criticism after a shocking video of him using a racial slur in his Spotify podcast gained attention.

Spotify paid the podcast host roughly $150 million for exclusive rights to the show, but Rogan retained complete creative control. Musician India Arie then threatened to take her songs off Spotify because of Rogan, posting a video of Rogan repeating the n-word over 20 times on his podcast.

Rogan responded, “I never used it to be racist because I’m not racist”, and that the video was taken out of context. In response to the video and Rogan’s ‘apology,’ Spotify removed around 70 episodes off the podcast, including those where he made offensive comments on sexual assault and race.

WJPS senior Eltzy Galindo said, “I’m glad Spotify is actually doing something about Joe Rogan, and I hope eventually he’ll be kicked off the platform completely.”

WJPS senior Jenny Kuo said, “Spotify should have already gotten rid of Rogan because he’s making the platform look bad as well.”

The longer we let Rogan get away with things, it sets up for something more unacceptable to happen down the line.
