Racism Hurts. Speak Against It!

People who have immigrated to America have not been through the best experiences when trying to get into schools due to slavery and inequality. Thankfully, slavery was abolished in 1865.

The real terror that is still occurring today is racism. Webster’s dictionary defines racism as “unfair treatment of people of a particular race in society to benefit another race.”

After students were going back to school in September according to the New York Times, a white student in Pittsford, New York was shown with a gun making a threat to “kill black people” with it.

Not only was this action bad enough, but this action alone may have made Pittsford the center of another racist incident.

WJPS junior, Keuntae Yim had suggested, “Alongside a suspension, he should go to an inclusion class to learn about equality and diversity.”

WJPS staff, Ms. Kim had implied, “What I would do is I would think about the students of color, adjust lessons for those that felt offended, ask for help from other staff, discuss the issue in a lesson, and finally offer students support for these hate crimes.”

While a suspension may have been fine, teachers and staff could probably have lessons about equality and respect for all races.
