Schools and Snow Days

Due to the effects of COVID-19 on learning, New York City schools have made an adjustment to snow days. Snow days will now be replaced with asynchronous learning for all students in public schools.

Asynchronous learning allows students to work on their own schedule throughout the day. Readings, lectures, assignments, tests and homework assignments can all be accessed through the workbase website that the teachers decide to post on.

Mrs. Kontos, an English teacher at WJPS stated, “I enjoy my day-to-day in-class interaction with my students. I believe this is the most effective way to teach and to learn. Computers and screen time can not compete with the importance of why being inside the classroom is crucial and beneficial for both teachers and students.”

Mr. Lai, an AP Computer Science teacher at WJPS commented, “With the exception of my AP CSP class, where we have to stick to a certain schedule and get a certain amount of stuff accomplished each day to be prepared for the AP exam, I view asynchronous days as a little bit of a breather for both myself and my students.”
