Terrified looks, sweaty palms, soft whispers. These characteristics expressed by the students attending the Francis Lewis High School Fair were evident.

Held on October 18th and 19th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., schools from across Queens set up stations to introduce their programs to incoming freshmen. Parents and students had the opportunity to speak with school representatives and learn more about high schools they’re interested in.

“You can read the directory and you can see information about the school but it’s very different if you actually talk to someone and ask your own questions. The directory pages have a tendency to put ideas in people’s head and that generates a lot of questions which they don’t answer,” executive director Margaret Rogers said.

Stations began from the main entrance moving on to the gym and the cafeteria. The students were able to roam around freely to ask questions and hear from current students experience at their high school.

“I was extremely intimidated at first because there was just so many schools to look at. Every school had a something unique, but I’m glad I came because it was a good way to see what each school has to offer,” eighth grader Crystal Archer said.
