Mr.Mitchell, the newest member of the staff, gives students some information about him.

What was your prior experience in teaching?

Worked during summer school at William Cullen Bryant High School.

How are you adjusting to WJPS?

I think it’s a really lovely place. The kids seem to be well-behaved, even if they talk a lot.

If you weren’t a teacher what would be your other profession?

An actuary. I would do statistics for insurance companies; it’s a really boring job. I majored in math in college, and I started out wanting a life making a lot of money at a boring job. I was a tutor for a couple of years.

If you were not teaching math what else would you teach?

I would probably teach a science class. Maybe chemistry. Even if I wasn’t good at it, I really enjoyed learning it.

So far what is the best thing about teaching?

The students. They all have different personalities, if I had taken the job I went to college for, I would have been around a bunch of miserable people. Only coming to work and leaving nothing in between.

What goals do you have for yourself/class?

I want to continue teaching here. I want to have a great learning environment for my students in my classes. I want the students to understand lessons and make it very enjoyable for all.

Do you have advice for students who want to be teachers?

If you want to be a teacher, know it during college because trying to become a teacher half way through college can be tough.

Catch Mr. Mitchell around the school and his room, 357.
