Lorenzo Carcaterra, the author of the book Sleepers, will be visiting the school on Thursday. In the book, four young boys John Reilly, Tommy Marcano, Michael Sullivan and Shakes, go through a time of violence, redemption, and retribution.

Described as “compelling” by USA Today, the story left readers on the edge of their seats and made them feel as if they were actually there with them.

“I introduced Sleepers last year. I had read it when it first came out in the 90’s and it always stuck with me as a very haunting and gripping memoir. Even though people hadn’t gone through it, you could put yourself in their place and feel empathetic with them. It’s a very easy read and a complex read at the same time,” English teacher Ms. Marks said.

Students share their feelings about Lorenzo visiting the school.

“Even though I never experienced it, when you’re really into a book, you feel the feelings from the writer. I felt it and it was really good. I connected with it,” senior Josabel Vinas said.
