As this April marks the 20th anniversary of National Poetry Month, students and staff will celebrate the school’s fifth annual poetry slam. On April 8th, students and staff will perform original poems in front of their colleagues.

Previous poetry slams have revolved around the theme of the American Dream, but this year’s poetry slam has a new theme: fear.

“We are taking on a new idea for the poetry slam, revolving around fear. Our very own students will not only be reciting poetry, but also have music performances,” Poetry Slam organizer Mrs. Marks said.

This years annual poetry slam will take place at McGoldrick Library located at 155-06 Roosevelt Avenue in Flushing, NY 11354. The event will start at 4:00 PM and run until 6:00 PM.

“I find the annual poetry slam to be very helpful to voice our thoughts and emotions to our fellow students,” junior Vincent O’brien said.

It’s not too late to sign up for this annual event. Mrs. Marks is always looking for more poets who like to be heard. For more information, email Mrs. Marks at [email protected] or stop by her room 327.
