Daniel Grigori has more than reason to fall, when he comes across a new student at their boarding school Sword & Cross, Lucinda (Luce) Price, for the thousandth time in Lauren Kate’s novel, ‘Fallen’.

Daniel has been bestowed with a curse of immortality as an angel, and with that curse comes another. He encounters Luce, and falls helplessly in love with her every time they meet. The catch is that once they find each other and they have their first kiss, Luce is supposed to combust into flames and be killed right in front of his eyes. The strange case that brings upon this story is that after their first kiss, Luce sticks around, which throws Daniel completely off guard. In this journey, the pair have to find out why, for the first time, the curse didn’t happen in it’s natural cycle.

Not to mention, the romance that Luce gets herself into with the peculiar Daniel Grigori, who always has his eye on her, is completely sparked with desire and passion. She can’t deny the attraction she feels towards him. Although she is oblivious to the nature of the curse between the two, she is still helplessly drawn to him. The interaction between Luce and Daniel was described extremely well in the novel, and flowed well with each sequence of events.

Daniel’s sketchy behavior doesn’t do justice for him as the reader falls for him, craving to dig more into the mystery of him. Although Daniel has been anything but cold to her, he is still caught being drawn to her as well, this factor entrances the reader even more toward him for he is driven by his own passion. As much as he tries to keep Luce out of harm’s way, he can’t help but unintentionally involve her by so much as introducing himself.

Kate published this book on December 8, 2009, which is ironic because it’s a chilling tale released in the dead of winter. This book has now bloomed into a quartet series where the journey continues with Daniel and Luce, along with other people stumbling in and out. Kate’s style of writing portrayed the tale in a mysterious way, which also compliments the haunting cover of the first book. The flowing sequence of events that Kate has laid out for Lucinda Price to dance upon clearly depicts the character development of her and of those around her based on interaction.

Kate’s style of writing is very unique, and her use of language is very graceful and engaging. The way she drenches each page with suspense has readers eager to turn page after page. The journey puts their romance to the test, continuing into the 4-book series, as well as onto the big screen in 2016, where viewers will need to be prepared to fall for Daniel over again.
