Seal watching in Freeport or Breezy Point on Long Island is planned for the Wildlife Conservation Club to help educate the members about seals and their habitat. Members will have an opportunity to adopt an individual seal. The organization that allows this to happen is called, The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation.
“It would be a fun experience, because you get to watch seals and learn about them,” Alexander Mildener, founder of the Wildlife Conservation Club said.
“We want to spread awareness about the issues that the environment is facing, and how to help it,” Mildener said.
“On normal days, we plan on watching documentaries about wildlife, making T-shirts, and choosing an animal for the week. For animal of the week, we will make a poster or a Power Point [presentation] about an animal we choose, and educate the school community about it,’’ Mildener said.
The club meets after school on Mondays in room 332. It is a small club at the moment and it is currently looking for more members to join; the adviser is Mr. Speizer.
