Recently, Dr. Hoa Tu, the superintendent of the Queens North High School District, came for a visit to WJPS for a two-hour virtual neighborhood walk where ideas on how to better the school community were discussed. Students and staff gathered in the library, where they collaborated with the WJPS PTA team to create actual solutions to the proposals made. 

When asked about her opinion on the school after the walk ended, Dr. Tu stated, “The school is a warm, supportive environment where students feel encouraged and empowered to speak their minds. I can also confidently say that teachers, faculty and staff know their students well and they challenge them while supporting them at the same time. This school creates a space for voices to be heard and that’s all thanks to the school’s leadership.”

Dr. Tu also commented that her job as a superintendent has been “crazy, busy and fun” due to her meeting 26 new school leaders across the district. “It’s been a crazy world, meeting all these new people, and it’s a tough job because I visit every single school and I listen to their wishes and how they want to improve their school. I don’t mind though, because this experience has been amazing; everyone is so generous and I truly feel like I am the luckiest superintendent yet.”
