MTA Installing Cameras in Subway for Safety

MTA+Installing+Cameras+in+Subway+for+Safety

The MTA is looking to soon install two security cameras on every train in hopes to help New Yorkers feel more safe while riding the train.

In total, the transit authority will be installing 5,400 more cameras in the trains. 3,800 more cameras are being installed in subway stations.

Lorenzo Rodriguez, a student who uses public transportation stated, “I think it will definitely be a start to safety and make many people feel better about going onto trains. Due to so much crime on trains, many people have felt intimidated to go onto trains, but by adding cameras it will make some feel safer.”

Sophia Mamone, a graduate of WJPS said, “It’s definitely a benefit but I think it doesn’t instill safety because if someone is on the train were to start shooting, the camera won’t do anything. A cop on a train would increase safety, while a camera would just be used for evidence.”
