Netflix Password Sharing

Netflix+Password+Sharing

Recently, Netflix has sparked controversy due to its efforts to crack down on password sharing. The streaming platform is experimenting with monetizing account sharing.

Netflix states that primary account holders will be able to add up to two users outside their households for a small fee. However, to enforce this, occasionally, users will have to re-enter their credentials or share their location with the application.

Ms. Bonnani, a teacher at WJPS, said, “I think it is ridiculous that I have to share my location to prove I am allowed to use my Netflix account. What if I am traveling or staying at a family member’s house?”

Although Netflix forces users to accept states that password sharing is strictly prohibited in the terms and conditions, it is not heavily enforced.

Hamza Aryan, a senior at WJPS, said, “My brother uses the same Netflix account as me, but he is in college. It is an invasion of privacy that Netflix will check his location to make sure he is in the same household as me.”

Currently, this feature is being tested in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru and may be launching in America soon.
