Mcdonald’s Sustainable Switch

Mcdonald’s Sustainable Switch

The popular fast-food chain, Mcdonald’s, plans to switch over to a completely more sustainable toy in their happy meals. The company intends to do this by creating toys using fossil-fuel based plastic, along with plant and recycled-based material.

As of February, this change is already taking place in France where they let kids make choices between trading cards, 3D paper based toys to put together, or coloring papers and books. The United Kingdom and Ireland are also transitioning to this new change as well.

The company plans for this change to fully take over worldwide by the start of 2025. By that time they are aiming for about 90% of plastic reduction. The reduction of plastic usage will be equal to more than 650,000 individuals eliminating plastic from their lives each year.

“I think it’s much more efficient for the environment while also allowing kids to have fun with toys. It helps the environment stay clean of plastic and the harmful toxins that come along.” junior Alana Azad at WJPS said.

Junior Briana Pena at WJPS said, “I think changing the toys in happy meals would provide a new way of learning for kids while also helping the planet.”
