The past year has been one that will mark history. While the pandemic seems to be winding down, more signs of returning to a sense of pre-Covid normalcy are within sight.
As the 2020-21 school comes to a close, plans for reopening schools in the fall are underway. New York City Chancellor Meisha Porter recently announced schools would resume fully in person in the fall. So how will school be in the fall?
WJPS principal, Dr. Werner stated, “We have to address learning loss and the social/emotional effects the pandemic and subsequent school closure has had on our students.”
She continued, “At the moment, the DOE plans to reopen school buildings with three feet physical distance. There will also be a mask requirement and a health screening requirement to enter the building.”
Additionally, while there are no plans for remote learning regularly, it may still be implemented on occasion.
According to WJPS assistant principal Mrs. Poulos, “snow days are now obsolete. Staff and students will be required to work remotely during snow days.”
Many students, teachers, administrators, and parents are eagerly awaiting the reopening of schools, as it is another step to returning to life before the Coronavirus pandemic.
