With the spring season starting, many people want to enjoy fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers. There is a way they can have these at home: planting a container garden.
You can utilize a porch, a balcony or even a windowsill.
Mr. Tesler, a WJPS teacher, stated, “It’s a great idea because some families do not have the space and this is a great way to provide healthy vegetables for their families.”
As your garden grows, it can beautify the area and leave a pleasant scent.
As stated by Ariel Dupoux, a WJPS junior, “Container gardens create a more elegant and beautiful scenery for your garden AND they even freshen the air!”
There are steps you can follow to make your container garden.
- Choose a container with drainage. (you can always drill holes in the bottom)
- Prepare your container with a layer of pebbles in the bottom.
- Fill your container with soil. (leave one inch open at the top)
- Add a good starter food.
- Pick and prepare your plants. Trim away any yellowing leaves.
- Move soil to the sides of the container and place the plant in the center.
- Fill the rest of the container with soil.
- Water until it drains from the bottom.
- Fertilize plants.
- Be sure to maintain your container garden.
Follow these simple steps and soon, you will have a container garden for you and others to enjoy.
