Australia Wildfires Wreak Havoc On Communities and Wildlife

Australia Wildfires Wreak Havoc On Communities and Wildlife

Australia’s forests have been burning since September. The fires were caused because of droughts and the country’s driest year. Temperatures have been hotter than ever and it has taken a toll on wildlife and communities.

The fires have killed several dozen people, over one billion animals, and destroyed more than 2,000 homes and properties. Australian police have taken action against those who started a fire contributing to its igniting. Globally, animal extinction is a huge threat to the world.

Losing too many animals and wildlife can have irreversible effects to our world. It may not seem  important to most people in other countries or regions, but it’s not only happening in Australia.

David Montanez, WJPS junior said, “The fires are hurting wildlife and precious animals that are losing their homes. The world needs these animals, they belong here and shouldn’t suffer by the hands of humans.” Montanez feels strongly about this since his aunt is a veterinarian who’s been to Australia and has treated animals like kangaroos, sloths, and koalas. Animals are not the only one evacuating, but people as well. It hasn’t taken long for the fire to spread and burn land.
