Should You Be Tracked?

Should You Be Tracked?

Across the country, schools are installing tracking devices into student ID cards to identify where the students are and to make sure they’re not missing. Though it might seem like a good idea, it’s not appropriate to place tracking devices in identification cards because it could potentially put students at risk and students don’t like to be treated as prisoners.

“I would feel very unsafe because I would be watched around 24/7 and I really don’t like the idea,” said Steve Campoverde, WJPS 8th grader.

WJPS junior, Erick Garcia said, “Personally I’d feel safer knowing that a teacher is watching me at all times and knows my location 24/7 and I wouldn’t be able to sneak away from them.”

I think the idea of putting tracking devices in student ID cards is a terrible idea because the student’s location is not the school’s job to control, but their parents. It’s a bad idea, because pupils will not be free if they have tracking devices on their ID cards. They will always think of themselves as criminals, and that may break their self-confidence. Students must have freedom!
