The History of the PlayStation

The+History+of+the+PlayStation

There have been many gaming consoles invented throughout the history of video games, from the Atari 2600 to the XBOX 360. One of the many gaming consoles is the PlayStation, officially abbreviated as PS.

Made by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the PlayStation was released in 1994 and was a huge success, being the first console of any type shipping over 100 million consoles under a decade. The original PlayStation had started a chain of successful gaming consoles.

The PlayStation 2, released in 2000 is the best-selling home console yet, selling up to 155 million by the end of 2012. This system came with two versions, one being the original and another model, the Slimline, which both holds two memory cards and DualShock 2 controllers.

The PS3, which was released at the end of 2006, and was the first video game console to be compatible with Blu-Ray discs. The console had negative reviews due to it being overpriced, having a lack of quality games, and motherboard issues.

After a couple of years, a slimmer model of the PS3 was released in September 2009 and improved sales.

The latest PlayStation, the PS4, released in 2013, has many more features, along with over 100 million units shipped worldwide. The PlayStation 5 is currently in the works and should be expected to be released by the end of 2020.
