Doom, is a game series from 1993 until November 2019, widely regarded as the most influential first-person shooter game, with us now looking at how the series has changed over its 25 years.
Doom (1993) featured 11 enemies (The Zombieman, Shotgunguy, Imp, Pinky, Spectre, Cacodemon, Lost Soul, Hellknight, Baron, Cyberdemon, Spider Mastermind) and seven weapons (Pistol, Shotgun, Chaingun, Chainsaw, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, BFG 9000) with the only abilities being to shoot, select weapons, and interact with the environment.
Doom 2 is built off of Doom (1993), it is mostly the same, with new levels. Adding the Super Shotgun weapon, with the Arachnotron, Pain Elemental, Revenant, Chaingunner, Mancubus, and Archville enemies.
Doom 3 is the most different in the series, adding horror elements and slower gameplay. Added Weapons are the Flashlight, Assault Rifle, Grenades, and Grabber, with The Maledict, Bruisers, Sabaoth, Tick, Maggot, Cherub, Trite, Vagary, and Wraith.
Doom (2016) is a reboot of the series, taking the original high speed of gameplay. The new weapons are the Heavy Assault Rifle and Gauss Cannon, with new enemies being the Summoner and Cyber Mancubus, as well as adding equipment.
Overall, Doom is a series that has stayed relatively the same, with Doom 3 being the only game that tries to differ heavily from the series.
