A man who was shot by police on March 25th has been charged with arson for lighting his car on fire and charging at officers with a knife outside the 111th precinct in Bayside, New York.
Jarrell Davis was arrested at 2:00 am Monday morning, hours after he was taken to the New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital with gunshot wounds in his torso and leg. He had been shot by officers around 3:00 pm outside the 111th precinct after running at officers with a 12-inch knife.
Davis allegedly lit his own car on fire after crashing it into one of the marked police SUVs outside the precinct. He apparently sprayed lighter fluid on his car and marked police vehicles before setting the fire. He was charged with arson, attempted arson, four counts of menacing a police officer, three counts of reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon.
WJPS junior Yamani Thomas said, “It’s absolutely a shame this incident had to occur, thankfully the culprit is in custody dealing with the consequences.”
