World Journalism Preparatory School celebrated Pi Day on March 14th by allowing students to throw pies at teachers. During the high school lunch period, students had the chance to throw aluminum pie pans filled with whipped cream at some of the WJPS teachers. The teachers included Mr. Thompson, Mr. Gembara, Mr. Gardner, Mr. Andrejkovics, Mr. Reff, and Mr. Van Deurs.
Some students paid $3 ahead of time to purchase tickets and were able to pick any teacher they wanted to pie, while others purchased the day of the event. The fundraiser took place in the big schoolyard and teachers sat lined up in plastic bags shielding their clothes from the whipped cream. Students were directed to stand behind a nearby white line, a good distance away from the teacher they chose.
The purpose of the event was to raise money for the class of 2020’s senior dues. The class of 2020 raised around $250. “I didn’t think the fundraiser was going to be successful because it was planned very last minute, but everyone came together as a school and made it work, and it ended up being a very fun and successful day,” said WJPS junior Abigail Rivera.
