Criminology At World Journalism Preparatory School

“I took one class so far and I’m already in love. The topic is so interesting, it definitely doesn’t feel like three hours when I’m in there. This class just may be the reason I look further into Criminal Justice as my future occupation,” asserted Mya Von Werne, a criminology student at World Journalism Preparatory School.

Recently, WJPS has given students the chance to partake in criminology; a college course programmed to introduce eligible upperclassmen in WJPS to the field of criminal justice and law enforcement.

New York City has the largest police department in the country. As of 2019, the New York Police Department has 39,000 active officers.

Criminology is a career path that some students in WJPS will decide to venture on. This college class presents an opportunity for many aspiring cops, lawyers, judges, corrections officers, and paralegals in WJPS.

The criminology course is sponsored by the College Now program, which compliments the NYC Department of Education’s endeavor to promote both college access, and college success for its thousands of students in attendance at NYC public schools.

College Now allows for students to receive college credit prior to admission to a CUNY or SUNY university. High schoolers conserve both considerable amounts of time and money in college if they decide to apply for College Now classes.

Criminology is now in session, with its first class taking place on January 29th, 2019. The course takes place from 3PM to 6PM on Tuesdays on the WJPS campus, and awards three college credits to students, if the course is passed successfully.

“I hope to learn a lot about criminal justice and law advocacy this semester. I may want to be a police officer or something similar so this class is perfect for me. I’m so excited, and the professor was so nice. Very warm and welcoming,” said criminology student, Justine Cora.
