Editor’s Note: Two journalism students from Hillsbrough High School in Tampa, Florida, teamed up with three students from the World Journalism Preparatory School to create a collaborative piece.

Name: D’ Aquila Pastry Shop
Location: 33-31 Francis Lewis Blvd., Bayside N.Y. 11358
Specialty: Canolli
Open since: 1976 (Been open for 37 years)
Notes: The bakery fills the air with a slightly sweet smell, colorful authentic Italian pastries line up neatly behind glass displays, making the options endless for a sweet tooth
From freshly baked loaf of bread to handmade gelato, D’ Aquila is a sweet shop for all your sweet cravings.
Price Range: Small treats are priced around  $1.50 – $4
Orders can be made, such as specialty cake or mass order of a variety of treats

Name: Juice for Life
Location: Bayside 34-07 Francis Lewis Blvd and 251-20 Northern Blvd. Little Neck
Open since: February 2000
Specialty: Known for their health food, employees recommend The Chop and the Havana Wrap. They are open for lunch and dinner.
Notes: Most customers are gym members that come from the nearby gym after workouts. Subway is competition. Meals and smoothies range from $3 – $15.

Name: Strawberry Fields Fruit Market
Location: 3333 Francis Lewis Blvd Flushing, N.Y. 11358
Specialty: Wraps, sandwiches and salads
Open since: 1982 (Been open for 31 years)
Notes: With colorful vegetables walking into a deli in the back. Strawberry Fields carries various lunch options for students and teachers. Although it has been open longer than the
school, being across from the school has helped business. But with new restaurants that have opened up such as Subway,  competition has arose among the neighborhood businesses.

Name: 57’s American Grill
Location: 3345 Francis Lewis Blvd (Francis Lewis Blvd. & 34th Ave.), Flushing, N.Y. 11358
Opened: 4 years ago in 2009
Specialty: Known and recommended by the owner , their 57’s Cheese Burgers .
Notes: 57’s offers a 50s-style theme with matching decor and is kid-friendly. Located across the street from a school, is said to bring some pros and cons. Although the majority of students and teachers have helped the business right by the bus stop from time to time, fight often spur up in front of the restaurant.
