Many new clubs have started to emerge in the school this year. Among the various clubs is the History Club. It has been created by freshman Medina Surajpal and is supervised by social studies teacher, Mr. Mengani.
“We will spotlight certain topics in history, [such as] Asian history, Incas, nomads, [and] how New York came to be. We will go on trips to museums to learn more on the United States and international affairs,” president Medina Surajpal said.
One trip they have planned is a trip to the Gardner D. Stout Hall of Asian Peoples exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History. (It is only opened to members of the club).
Currently, the club and several high school ambassadors are planning a Knowledge Bowl. It is a trivia tournament, where each grade competes with another grade. The winning team (grade) will earn a pizza party. The purpose of this event is to allow students to compete in an academic way and help them realize their full potential through a healthy competition.
Mr. Mengani, and the members of the club are continuing to make an effort to improve the club.
“We’re [the History Club] still in the process of making the club. Any legitimate interest can become a club. Medina asked if I would be interested [in being the faculty advisor of the club], so I said yes,” faculty advisor, Mr. Mengani said.
The first official meeting will be held this coming Friday, January 15th, during lunch (4th period), in room 208.
