For many years, the GOP (The Grand Old Party) has faced many problems in the house. This “fighting” was cause for the previous House Speaker, John Boehner, to resign, and ended majority leader Kevin McCarthy’s run for speaker.
“I think Paul Ryan will do a good job as Speaker of the House, unlike Boehner who did a horrible job,” junior Justin Raclaw said.
When Paul Ryan announced his running, he said that he’d only propose bills that house Republicans would vote on. Ideas such as, Immigration reform, health care legislation, and a tax overhaul.
As of October 28th, Paul Ryan was officially nominated for Speaker of the House. Ryan insisted multiple times in the past that he didn’t want this position, because of family reasons and working conditions. Ryan beat out Daniel Webster a Republican from Florida in a secret ballot, 200 to 43. Ryan will go on to become the youngest Speaker at 45, in 146 years, since James G. Blaine in 1869 at the age of 39.
“Ryan will be able to round up House Republicans, and finally change something in Congress,” junior Rocco Pascalli said.
