Ms. Bermudez is back this year at WJPS working as a full-time paraprofessional.
She was born and raised for most of her childhood in Colombia, then she moved to New York in the year 2000 at the age of 17.
She wanted to be a teacher assistant, but over time she realized her idea of a teacher assistant suited more to a paraprofessional.
She said, “I like being a part of helping kids grow and helping with assignments.”
She currently works on the second floor with the sixth grade.
Bermudez stated, “I’ve worked with 11th and 12th grade before, but I enjoy working with the sixth graders more because I get to help them grow at a younger age.”
Before WJPS, Bermudez worked as a paraprofessional at Flushing High School.
She came here because there was a need for a paraprofessional who spoke Spanish.
Bermudez stated, “I like the community and that it’s a smaller school, and everyone’s very welcoming and kind. I’m also able to continue my college classes.”
She is currently taking classes for her bachelor’s degree to hopefully become a kindergarten teacher.
