This year, WJPS has included AP Spanish Language and Culture in its curriculum, with Spanish teacher Señora Cotto teaching the class. This AP course is offered to 12th grade students.
Students are taught and encouraged to speak Spanish in preparation to make connections through the language and culture in real-world settings.
Students express their thoughts and ideas while having access to knowledge and different perspectives.
This class teaches skills in communication with others in various situations, advancing their knowledge from an intermediate idea of the Spanish language to a pre-advanced stage.
After completing the course, students will take the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam. The three-hour AP exam has 65 multiple-choice questions with four free-response questions.
WJPS Spanish teacher Ms. Cotto said, “I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and I could’ve retired five years ago and didn’t because I still love it. I still come into work every day with a smile on my face and go home the same way.”
WJPS 12th grader Daniela Vicente said, “As a native speaker, I took this class to immerse myself in the language and culture, which so far has helped me with grammar. I’m very excited to see what the rest of the year holds.”
