A school favorite, the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, along with its allergy-friendly counterpart, the sunbutter and jelly sandwich, has been removed from the school lunch menu, leaving many questioning what to eat.
WJPS teacher Ms. Mills commented, “I don’t agree that the nut-free peanut butter and jelly sandwich was removed from the lunch menu without warning or feedback from the school community.”
The sunbutter and jelly sandwich, in particular, has served as a thoughtful alternative for those with peanut allergies or for students looking for a slightly different taste.
WJPS 11th grader Joseph Weir stated, “I feel that them removing the sunbutter and jelly from the school lunch menu is detrimental to many kids. A lot of kids rely on it, and it is impacting the school body negatively.”
What could be the reason that such a beloved food item would be removed without notice? Will there be a replacement?
Without an extensive lunch menu, the students of WJPS are left with limited options and must resort to purchasing items from the school store for snacks and pre-packaged items to satisfy their midday hunger.
