The smart basketball was created by the Wilson Company.
The smart basketball tracks a player’s statistics.
There is an electronic sensor installed in the basketball that tracks all shots. If the player is comfortable with this option, there would be no need to memorize how many three-pointers and layups they made.
Also, there is no need to recharge this ball. Once they’ve reached 100,000 shots, the sensor inside the ball deactivates and stops keeping track of the shots. Once the sensor dies out, a player can either continue to use the ball or buy a new one.
To keep track of the shots, a player can download an app on their phone. Once they’ve paired the phone up to the ball, they throw the ball 10 feet up in the air, and once it hits the ground, the phone is paired up to it.
This ball is designed for all players costs about $200.
WJPS 11th grader Joseph Weir said, “I think this is pretty good for people that are trying to get better, but I’d assume it’d be different because even the pros have said a slight difference in the basketball can mess up your shot.”
WJPS 11th grader Jack Annibelle said, “I think it sounds good. It can make the game more fair.”
