Wildfires have been a very hot topic in the last two years in this area. With the Canada wildfire taking place in March of 2023 and others happening this fall, wildfires need to be taken more seriously all throughout the U.S.
Civilians can contribute to preventing these wildfires by disposing of cigarettes when finished being used, extinguishing campfires, instead of leaving them unattended, and practicing safe outdoor activities that don’t cause any fires.
Wildfires may also be prevented by lowering the use of gas/fuel in general. Whenever fuel is ignited, a fire begins, and spreads quickly.
Climate change also plays a huge factor in wildfires, since the intensity/frequency of the climate causes the wildfires to be more intense.
According to the Western Fire Chiefs Association wildfires can travel at nearly 15 miles per hour.
WJPS 12th grader, Collin Turcios stated, “Wildfires can be prevented from spreading so quickly by having firefighters ready on the scene.”
WJPS 11th grader, Anthony Canale also said, “These wildfires can be prevented if you simply are more careful with the activities you do whenever you’re outside.”
