Technology company “Meta” has allowed the US government access to their AI technology for military use.
Meta states that they would reconstruct specific AI models, named “Llama,” ready for agencies to use for their purposes.
According to the New York Times, the Llama models are “open source,” meaning the technology can be used by other developers, companies, and governments.
These robots could affect our defense in the future, replacing normal firearms with automated ones.
This is an exception to Meta’s “acceptable use policy,” which prevents the use of the company’s AI software for “military/warfare industries”, including other purposes.
WJPS technology specialist, Mr. Myrtil said, “How will it be able to tell between a target and a civilian? I wouldn’t want any programing to hold weapons any time soon, just like humans that made them, we are prone to mistakes.”
WJPS seventh grader, Barabra Angreou said, “If we can put them to really good use then I would be fine with robots being used for defenses.”
WJPS seventh grader, Emanul Almeida said, “I’m not really onboard with the AI replacement because what if there are people who want to show their dedication to America.”
