Students should be allowed to graduate after completing 11th grade.
For students to graduate high school it is required to have 44 high school credits in total. Some students have achieved all of their credits needed to graduate by 11th grade. So why not be able to graduate a year early?
Many high schools in New York City offer graduation diplomas when finishing 11th grade.
Graduating high school early can give many students an opportunity to get their careers started early.
WJPS students should be given the choice to graduate at the end of junior year, but only if they have acquired their 44 or more high school credits needed to graduate.
WJPS dean Ms. McCloskey said, “I don’t think students should graduate early. I don’t think it’s beneficial to graduate at a younger age. Students need time to mature and if they go to college or start in a work force at an early age it won’t be beneficial because they aren’t mature enough.”
WJPS 11th grader Valery Cardona said, “I think we should graduate early because if we have all the high school credits needed to graduate we should be able to finish early so it can give people a year to work and start college with an advantage.”
