How can students manage their time efficiently? Can students manage sports, jobs, schoolwork, and more?
High school students take seven classes a day excluding lunch, meaning students have assignments to complete during after school hours from many classes throughout the day.
Some assignments are lengthy and take plenty of time to complete.
Starting in ninth grade, many students are eligible to work. Students are completing shifts after school to the nighttime. Many students are also joining sports teams, including basketball, soccer, football, and softball.
Students’ extracurricular activities, including jobs, take up most of their time after school, making it difficult to complete assignments on time and complete them with the right amount of time and efficiency to get good grades.
For this reason, students should be provided with a productive period to complete assignments throughout them. This extra time would ensure homework assignments are done. This will help students manage their time better and exceed while completing all that is needed to be done after school.
WJPS teacher Ms. Laverda stated, “I support free periods for students to work, but this school doesn’t have the capability because it’s a small school.”
WJPS 11th grader Valery Cardona stated, “As a student taking AP courses and working, it would be great to have a productive period to get my schoolwork done and not worry about it after work.”
