The Olympics are set to return to the United States for the first time since 1996. The 2028 Olympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles.
The International Olympic Committee has decided to include baseball, softball, lacrosse, and flag football for the 2028 games.
Baseball, softball, as well as lacrosse, both seem like great picks to include in the 2028 games. These sports are played globally and could make for an exciting competition. On the other hand, flag football seems like an illogical pick.
As the name implies, American football is an American sport, and is not really played in any other parts of the world. NFL stars will get a chance to show off their talent on an international scale, but team USA will likely end up with no competition.
The addition of flag football into the Olympics just seems like a token of gratitude toward the U.S. for hosting the games once more.
WJPS 9th grader Lambreeni Dzelves said, “I think flag football would be a great sport to include as it would bring in lots of viewers.”
WJPS 12th grader Alejandro Ortiz said, “I don’t believe the addition of flag football makes much sense. The sport is only played in this country.”
