The international feast is a long-time tradition of WJPS which brings together the many cultures and ethnicities of the school’s students.
Held the day before Thanksgiving, the tradition enlists students to bring a dish from their respective culture. The school then gathers in the auditorium for a Thanksgiving-like feast.
During last year’s feast, students were told to bring only sweets and desserts, and no hot foods. This led to a decline in the amount of dishes brought and a decline in variation.
WJPS senior, Savia Lovett said, “I also think that we should bring back the hot food just because desserts can be universal, but they can also be repetitive. When you also have hot foods from different nationalities it’s more versatile and diverse.”
WJPS senior, Johan Lee said, “They should bring back the hot food because it tastes better and I feel like it’s easier to manage during the feast, and regarding the general population of WJPS, hot food will cater more to them and sweets aren’t that great.”
The disdain caused by the last feast’s proceedings has been solved by the administration’s decision to bring back the hot food options, now that COVID does not pose as much of an issue like it had in previous years.
