There are times where teachers can be too aggressive when dealing with students’ concerns. This causes students to be unwilling to do work because they’re uncomfortable with the attitude of the teacher.
Teachers should make their students feel comfortable and encourage them to do work. Ways to make sure students feel comfortable enough to open up, teachers are offering free time or office hours to communicate with students.
If a student doesn’t follow the teachers instructions, the teacher should tell students to step outside and peacefully resolve the problem instead of escalating the conflict further by shouting to prevent similar future problems.
In that case the students would understand that what they did was wrong rather than fearing and resenting confrontation with the teacher.
WJPS assistant principal Mrs. Yarmy said, “The teachers have a lot of students, it’s hard to communicate with all of them.”
WJPS staff member Ms. Florio said, “We’ll communicate better, and do everything that we can to make sure that communication is good.”
