Police are still investigating and searching for the suspects in a recent shootout in Fresh Meadows, Queens, which resulted in the injuries of two 18 year-old men and one 14 year-old girl.
The exact cause of the shootout is still being investigated, though witnesses reported that a group of teenagers were walking on 188th Street when two cars approached them. The perpetrators and a few teenagers in the group then began to argue.
Reports say one of the perpetrators had stepped out of the car and opened fire with a handgun, striking the three people.
The two 18 year-old men suffered injuries to their legs. The 14 year-old girl was struck in her neck.
The three were taken to the hospital, and officials reported that none of the injuries were fatal.
WJPS teacher Ms. Cicillini said, “I think gun violence is a serious issue that needs to be addressed more. A lot of people don’t realize how serious gun violence is, and at some point, it might be too late.”
Ms. Kontos, another WJPS teacher said, “Aside from politicians discussing them, there is not a solid action taking place to prevent senseless acts like these from reoccurring. I not only have my children at home to worry about, but I also have my students at school who I worry about as well. In a perfect world, students should travel to and from school safely without fearing for their lives.”
