Every day at recess, students from all grades play a recreational basketball game on the court in the school yard. Teams change every day, but it’s more or less always the same kids.
Cold or hot, sunny or cloudy, as long as there is outdoor recess there will likely be a basketball game played.
WJPS senior Hamza Ariyan, who participates in these games almost every day stated, “It’s a nice break from my school days. It feels good getting outside and having fun after sitting down in a class learning all day.”
Often these games can get quite competitive for a pickup game at recess.
Oliver Gonzales, WJPS sophomore hooper said, “There is always a small crowd watching. It helps the competitiveness because the crowd encourages everyone to be on top of their game.”
Ameen Afroz, a junior at WJPS who spectates often said, “I have never failed to be entertained.”
