Emily Henry released her second book, People We Meet on Vacation, a year after her hit romance book Beach Read.
This bright orange novel is about following the journey of a summer trip taken every year by two best friends who are complete opposites and are falling in love.
The way the chapters are structured is unique. It alternates between “this summer” and past summers they have spent together.
The characters feel very realistic. The way they express their emotions and come to express their feelings for each other is not seen often in the romance genre.
Speaking of how they got together, the development of their relationship was very well done, and it didn’t feel rushed at all. It’s also refreshing how it wasn’t set and done to the point where they lived happily ever after and expressed concerns about making the relationship work.
Since this book is about summer vacations, there are great descriptions of different places they travel to and their experiences. Sometimes the main characters have good experiences, other times bad, but Emily Henry has a way of placing you in the moment with them.
Overall, this novel receives a 10/10 and this is a book that many people should read. Even if you’re the type who’s not into romance, you would probably enjoy the characters and settings anyway.
