As we progress through the COVID-19 pandemic, we must take care of ourselves and our health. Maintaining good health enables a strong immune system, the system in our body that helps fight viruses like COVID-19 or a cold.
We can improve a healthy immune system by eating foods that are rich in nutrients, probiotics, zinc minerals, vitamins (specifically vitamins A, C, D, or E) or antioxidants.
These properties improve white blood cell production, help fight any invading bacteria and viruses, and enhance different immunity functions from within in our body.
Citrus fruits such as oranges, limes, and tangerines are prime examples as they have high vitamin C, help lower blood pressure, and encourage our system to produce white blood cells.
Other fruits and vegetables rich in the listed properties include blueberries, kiwis, watermelons, broccoli, ginger, sweet potatoes, bell peppers, onions, and carrots.
Alternative options , acquired via your local supermarket or made at home, consist of homemade soup, tea, low-fat yogurt, fruit or vegetable smoothies, oatmeal, and cooked poultry.
WJPS teacher Ms. Marks said, “I like fruit in general, but I especially love mangoes and grapes. They’re good for you. It’s honestly all about consistency with fruits.”
WJPS teacher Mrs. Bonanni said, “I’m a fan of watermelons already. The texture of watermelons and its flavor, I love them a lot.”
