Remote learning during the coronavirus pandemic caused technology such as tablets and computers to become more essential. While schools resumed in person this year, the need for technology did not just suddenly go away.
WJPS technology specialist Mr. Myrtil said, “Both DOE and WJPS are online. We are attempting to bring the school to 1:1, and essentially every kid has access to a device.”
WJPS science teacher Mrs. Bonanni said, “We have iPads to send home with students, anyone who requested one got one.”
DOE iPads are enabled with Wi-Fi which is especially good for students who may not have a device or internet access at home to complete their assignments at home.
WJPS senior Naomi Long said, “We have evolved from using a regular blackboard to whiteboard to smartboard to Promethean boards. We’ve gone from taking paper attendance to simply clicking absent or present on an app that is accessible by just about any source of technology.”
This pandemic has led to the prolonged and necessary use of technology as a means for communication and education.
