Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon has decided to step down as CEO of the company. Andy Jassy will replace him as CEO, and according to Bezos, “He’s going to be an outstanding leader, and he has my full confidence.”
The change will occur on July 5th, a date which was chosen because “It’s the date that Amazon was incorporated in 1994, exactly 27 years ago,” said Bezos.
Despite this change, Bezos will remain a part of the company, as executive chairman. Bezos said, “In the Exec Chair role, I intend to focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives.”
Bezos also mentioned that stepping down as CEO will allow him to focus on his other companies, such as The Washington Post.
Nick Martinez, a junior at WJPS said, “It makes me a little worried since Amazon is already great the way it is. The new CEO may change how the company functions, possibly in a negative way.”
Sayed Shah, another junior at WJPS said, “Bezos stepping down doesn’t phase me, but I know his impact on the world, and I hope his departure doesn’t change Amazon.”
