The Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in major changes to how restaurants operate; unpredictable weather and rates of COVID cases provide instability to the success during these times.
Currently, different states and cities have implemented policies on indoor and outdoor dining, depending on the amount of cases.
Studies have concluded that doing so increases the risk of infection and that knowledge has not gone unnoticed.
“ I would not be very comfortable about indoor dining at this moment of the pandemic, because it is proven that there is a potential rate of infection in restaurants,” said WJPS junior Angelina Loiacono.
In addition to the risk of contracting the virus, the weather has also played a great role on how restaurants can operate. WJPS junior Naomi Long said, “Takeout, because with temperature decreasing outdoor dining wouldn’t be the ideal choice to eat and with the rise in COVID cases, indoor dining isn’t really all that safe at the moment.”
Despite the elements, restaurants have continued to improvise, investing in things like heating lamps for outdoor dining or by working with other businesses to support one another.
